Pune is the historical and cultural capital of the State of Maharashtra. Historic seat of the great Maratha empire, Pune was a strong hold of the Peshwas under the illustrated king Maharaja Chatrapati Shivaji's highly distinguished and noble rule in the seventeen century. Pune is also its educational capital. Known as the Queen of Deccan for its quality educational institutions, it attracts academicians and students alike from all across India and also from different parts of the world. At 560 meters above sea level Pune is situated about 160 km south of major city of Mumbai; the commercial capital of India.
