PREFACE

Dr. DINESH P. AMALNERKAR
Executive Director

It is my pleasure to enframe the "Peer-Review Document" of C-MET in pursuance of the decision made in the meeting of the Steering Committee held at C-MET, Hyderabad on 2nd August 2008.

It begins with a brief background of formation of C-MET, its objectives and means to accomplish the set objectives, vision and mission of C-MET. Significance of electronic materials in the global context of frontier technologies (viz. information and communication) and avant-garde technology (viz. nanotechnology) has been subsequently brought out in the present document which essentially underlines C-MET's niche in critical materials. In the penultimate section of the document, while furnishing the overview of previous plans (8th-10th), the progress and accomplishments of C-MET have been recapitulated from its formative years to the stage of delivery mode operation pertaining to strategic and critical/private sector.

The last section of the document deals with focused 11th plan program, along with key accomplishments of C-MET at a glance. We felt it mandatory to support all the foregoing presentation/deliberations by providing the requisite information in the form of Annexures.

Upon culmination of this marathonic exercise, we feel a sense of pride & privilege to state that C-MET has made profound progress and acquired qualified R&D success (in terms of external projects, products, papers and patents), in the framework of its mandate and set objectives.
